The "Sabar Wars" Rogue Piano
My painted piano was stationed on South Orange Avenue in August of 2016, as part of the fourth "Playin' Around South Orange" Public Art Project.
Anticipating another Star Wars in December, "Rogue One, A Star Wars Story," my son was turning thirteen. The same age I was, when the original movie Star Wars came out. I loved that movie, so much fun! So, I decided to resurrect my obsession of Star Wars, and pay homage with special effects.
I painted “The Rogue Piano” to be a character in a fake space war, saga of creativity.
First, I thought I could be original with “SITAR WARS,” but as with, "GUITAR WARS" they have been done already! Well maybe not as a painted piano! Then it clicked. Surbahar came to mind. Rhymes with Star, similar to a Sitar but bigger! Nope, The word seems to long. Finally, here it is, the opening titles to my fake movie “SABAR WARS”.
A Short time ago, in a galaxy not so far, far, away...

Episode III, my 3rd piano project
THE ROGUE PIANO
Wait, What? SABAR WARS? Well, Sabars are a type of drum and they rhyme with Star. Welcome to my homage to Star Wars!
We are living in interesting times on this planet. Artists and musicians have taken to the streets of South Orange, New Jersey. Bands of rebels have begun to play music with different instruments, and begun to paint starships with different colors.
The key to survival, lay in the secret plans in this BB-88 unit. Metaphorically speaking of course! Please play what you wish on this piano. May the Forte be with You! Remember, the main idea of the republic is to restore creative freedom to the galaxy...
Eat up the popcorn and enjoy!

Famous line from Star Wars, when Luke Skywalker was learning the ways of the force. Obi Wan tells him, "Your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them." I thought that might apply to learning the piano because you need your ears, but don't take it from me, I can't play!
